A Midnight Revelation
At 2 AM, swaying in the dark with my congested baby, I discovered something unexpected about faith. My daughter’s first real cold had kept us up for several nights, her tiny body only finding rest when held close to my chest. As I stood there, wishing I could take her discomfort away and bear it myself, a profound realization washed over me. This simple parental instinct – this overwhelming desire to suffer in my child’s place – suddenly illuminated my understanding of God’s love in a way years of church services never had.
The gentle rhythm of her breathing, even with its slight congestion, became a quiet meditation on sacrifice and love. Here in this ordinary moment of parenthood – just a baby with a common cold – I found myself touching the edges of divine understanding. Sometimes the deepest truths come not in grand revelations, but in these quiet midnight moments of simply being a mother.
Understanding God’s Love Through Parenthood
I am messy and flawed, but God loves me so much He was willing to take on incredible pain so that I might be saved. As a parent now, it makes more sense. I’m naturally fearful and often more worried than I should be. But if I had to protect my daughter from a dangerous situation, suddenly I have only bravery to protect her. In those moments of full maternal protective instincts, I understand how God could love so much to make such a sacrifice. It’s a bigger feeling that surpasses logic.
An Unexpected Journey
When I started this blog, I intended to focus on education and travels. But as my understanding of parenting grows, it’s hard not to mention how profoundly my understanding of God has grown as a parent. It’s different. The world looks different when selfishness gets smaller, when another life truly feels more important than your own. Suddenly, perspective changes.
Gratitude in This Season
I’m so grateful to be a parent and gain the wisdom and courage that comes with it. I also wonder if I would have been wiser earlier in my life if I had been a mother sooner. Though I would have liked to make fewer mistakes, I am so grateful to be in this season now. I am blessed to have a husband who truly loves our family and raises our daughter in a way that I know will leave a profound impact on her life. I imagine her life will be greatly filled with the love of the Lord and love of a family that will carry a lasting impact.
The Beauty of Present Moments
There is something beautiful in being present and slowing down to enjoy being a parent. The whole family gets a richer experience, and God’s love becomes deeper in meaning and clarity. These quiet and unexpected moments remind us what matters most – our capacity to care deeply, protect fiercely, and love unconditionally. Perhaps that’s the greatest revelation of all: how the simple act of caring for our child can open our hearts to understanding love in its purest form.
