Monte Croce di Muggio: A Free Way to Experience Lake Como’s Majesty
We embarked on a moderate hike overlooking Lake Como and Lake Lugano, climbing Monte Croce di Muggio. If you’re looking for a way to truly take in the magnitude of Lake Como without spending any money, I wholeheartedly recommend this hike. The views are absolutely breathtaking. For future visits, I’m considering bringing a picnic to enjoy a longer stay at the summit.
The Journey and the Views
We drove up to a main parking lot in the ski area. The summit is at the top of what I assume is the chair lift route in winter. I can only imagine how stunning the views must be during the snowy months as well.
Both my husband and I found ourselves independently imagining what it would be like to have a house up there, looking down on those spectacular views. It’s surprising there isn’t more development on the hills, considering the panoramic vistas on offer.
A Personal Challenge: Hiking Postpartum
As we ascended, I found myself realizing how much my strength had changed post-pregnancy and postpartum. While the hike was still relatively moderate, I felt tired and hungry afterwards in a way I hadn’t before. Despite this, the experience was incredibly rewarding and I would definitely do this hike again.
A Pleasant Surprise: Local Flavors and Art
Ready for refreshments, we stopped at a restaurant near our parked car. We were delighted to discover how much they showcased local food and art. The menu featured local cheeses and sausages, as well as a house-made gin. The walls were adorned with impressionist paintings that truly caught my eye – I even considered how I might pack one to take home! Ristoro Genio – Alpe Giumello is a great way to round off your hiking experience with some authentic local flavors and culture.
